History
John's father was one of the founders and a prominant person in the Town of Richmond in Cheshire County in New Hampshire. The History of Richmond states that when John Sr came to Richmond his children were nearly grown up. He built a water powered grist mill in 1764-65. Lumber was the primary industry in as evidenced by the existance of 17 saw mills that were built in and around the town. The book also says they came from Uxbridge in Worcester County, Massachusetts. Uxbridge is in southern Massachsetts, 45 miles southwest of Boston. Richmond is just across the New Hampshire border and about 70 miles northwest of Uxbridge.
John Jr.
John Jr. was born in 1742 in Bolton in Worcester County, which is north of Uxbridge by 20 miles. John Jr. married Sarah Winter on Noverber 7, 1765 in Uxbridge. Sarah was born in Uxbridge on July 15, 1747. Shortly after their marriage they moved to Richmond and started a family. They had 7 children over the next fifteen year when John died at age 40 just 10 months after the last child was born.
Sarah
Sarah then married Capt. Peter Cook on November 22, 1792 in Richmond. I know nothing about Peter Cook except that he was listed as a Captain in the marriage record impling that he was in military service. Sarah Cook is listed in the 1830 U.S. Census in Cheshire County. Sarah died on July 22, 1832 in Cheshire County.
