John married Nancy Garrison on January 11 in 1829 in Fayette County, Ohio. Nancy is an interesting story, in that her parents apparently died when she was young. She was raised by John's younger brother, Isaac, as part of his family and she is mentioned in Isaac's will. Nancy was born about 1807, in Ohio, probably in Allen County. John and Nancy raised 11 children: Mary Jane (b 1829 d before 1870), James H. (b 1832 d 1862), Elvira (b 1833), Anne (b 1835 d 1871), Nancy R. (b 1841 d 1917), William F (b 1843 d 1914), Thomas (b 1845), Rebecca J. (b 1848), Emma R. (b 1848 d 1918), George W. (b 1850), and Sarah (b 1851), all born in Green Township in Fayette County. Some time after 1851 John and Nancy moved with their children to Clinton County, Indiana and it is believed that John and Nancy died there, probably around 1855, both at a relatively young age, 51 and 48 respectively.
