Sky Lights Quilt

Sky Lights is a mystery quilt designed especially for Electric Quilts learning fun by author Fran Iverson Gonzalez, from Edmond, Oklahoma. It was design for learning fun since there are 12 blocks in the quilt that had to be drawn and colored using Electric Quilts 6 (EQ6) software. The mystery quilt was a fun way to provide instruction on using the Drawing Tool within EQ6.
Sky Lights is a cityscape, inspired by Vincent Van Gogh's The Starry Night (1889). Van Gogh used a wide range of values to create his moody landscape. The gradual change in color value across the quilt is essential to show the lights of the city fading into the darkness of the night sky. There are 35 six-inch blocks from the 12 drawn blocks in EQ6, most all have been paper-pieced to provide accuracy.

I learned so much about the Drawing Tool in EQ6 from this mystery quilt and I have had lots of opportunities since to use those skills in designing other quilt blocks. It was a fun way to learn how to use the power of the Drawing Tool.

The quilt was machine-pieced and machine-quilted, it measures 42" by 54", and it hangs in our bedroom so we can see it every day.
