Patriotic Navy Veteran Quilts

After my quilt guild made patriotic quilts for veterans in nursing homes in the area, I decided to make a patriotic veteran’s quilt for each of my brother-in-laws and my husband. I thought they should not have to wait until they were in the nursing home to have one.

When I saw this pattern in Liberty & Justice for all by Vicki Lynn Oehlke, I knew I needed to take the challenge and make one of these quilts for vets. Now I made two of these Navy Quilts for veterans: one for my cousin's husband and another for a dear friend in Tennessee, both who had served in the Navy.

I machine-stitched in the ditch on the stripes of the flag and free-motion quilted around the stars in the flag. I echo-quilted lines every half-inch inside the star. I then quilted rays from the center to the edge in the background to show off the star to make a finished size of 50" X 52", a nice lap-size quilt.
