Nyhavn |
The inspiration of this quilt was a small quilt "Tuscan Village" in Fons and Porter's
Love of Quilting September/October 2006. Nyhavn is an upscale area north of
Copenhagen, Denmark with colorful apartments that house restaurants on the ground
floor along a canal. The windows were machine-pieced, then these windows became the center
of courthouse steps blocks (a variation of log cabin blocks), to formed the blocks
of the building, roofs, and sky. Elongated courthouse steps blocks were designed for
the road blocks and the water blocks.
The quilt was hand-pieced (125 hours) by Nancy in 2007 and machine-quilted (12 hours) by Nancy in 2008. Vertical lines were quilted on the buildings with echo-quilting on the roofs. Meander quilting on the sky, straight quilting on the road, and ripple quilting on the water finish the body of the "picture". Echo quilting in the gray border gives the quilt "picture" depth. |
