Lake Louise Landscape Quilt

This landscape quilt was made from a photo taken 23 August 2003 from the Fairmont Chateau when we visited Lake Louise. The quilt measures 47" wide by 45" long so it only looks like the photo by standing back away from it. The top was appliqued from fabrics that resembled the rocks, hills, water, sky and snow. The quilting follows the layers in the rocks, the trees on the hillside, and the waves in the water. It only took 15.5 hours to "audition" the fabric for the quilt and hand applique the pieces into place but 65 hours to hand quilt with matching quilt thread.

A border of fabric that resembles wood with grain was attached to make it look as if this is a scene out of a window.
