Handkerchief

The center pieces of this queen-size bed quilt are the old handkerchiefs that were gathered from Nancy's Maternal Maternal Great-Grandmother, Dessie Blanche Hughes Craig, and Nancy's Paternal Grandmother, Lucy Belle Carr Miller. No self-respecting woman of that era was ever without her handkerchief, either stuffed up her sleeve or in the bodice of her dress.
Nancy's mother, Barbara Miller, selected the handkerchiefs, appliqued them with embroidery floss, selected the colored pieces of pink and gray, and hand sewed them together. Nancy then quilted the distinctive spider web pattern into the pink squares and quilted the lines on the gray borders. Each handkerchief has its own quilted pattern based on the figures in the individual handkerchiefs. The final result when draped over a bed is absolutely stunning.
