Daddy's Ties Quilts

My father taught Junior-High science for 25 years and wore a tie to school every day. When the style of mens' ties went to narrow ties, he encouraged me to make something with them. I put them in the closet and forgot about them until we downsized in 2012 and I found them in the move. So I vowed to do something with them.

I found Shirley Botsford's Daddy's Ties book and loved the patterns in the book. Per her suggestions, I used shirting fabric in light blue for the background, and suiting fabric for the center of the fans and the borders. It was a lot harding hand-quilting through these fabrics, but the result was worth it.

I wanted to share Daddy's ties with my four siblings, so I made a small fan from the narrow end of the ties, and bordered it with the same fabric, and hand-quilted them for my siblings.
