Civil War Sampler Quilt |

This quilt was made from the book, A Path to the Civil War: Aureliia's Journey
Quilt, by Sarah Maxwell and Delores Smith, published by
C&T Publishing in Kansas City, Missouri in 2010. The book was a
birthday present from my sister (who has an interest and degrees in history).
Before I started this quilt, I was able to find a box of fat quarters of
Civil War reproduction fabrics that I used in the blocks. I also
found Civil War reproduction backing of black diamonds on a
beige background. I closely followed the colors in the book for
making my blocks.
I machine-pieced this quilt then hand-quilted it (200 hours) using my Great-Great-Grandmother's (Nancy Ellen Bond Hughes) quilting frame made by her son Roy. I bound the quilt in a black-on-black print to frame it. It is now lying on our king-sized bed so we can see it everyday! |
