Nathan Haines married Sarah Edwards in Fayette County on Christmas Day in 1834. They raised 3 children before Sarah in 1845 possibly in childbirth in Allen County, Ohio: Eliza (b 1838), Samuel E (b 1841), and William (b 1843). Nathan then married Rowena Berryhill on September 1, 1845 in Highland County, Ohio and they moved to Monroe Township, Grant County, Indiana. They had one child, Lewis (b 1849). Rowena died and Nathan married Sarah Petterson in Allen County, probably in Auglaize Township about 1853. They raised 6 children in Monroe Township, Grant County, Indiana about 20 east of Kokomo: Leander J (b 1854), Suzette (b 1856), Nathan F (b 1857), Sidney C (b 1859), Clara B (b 1862), and Elias (b 1865).
