Mary Catherine
Family Group
Mary Catherine married William Cragg on May 3, 1855 in Hardin
County, Ohio. William was born on March 5, 1833; he had
immigrated from England just 4 years prior to their marriage.
They raised a very large family of 14 children: John Henry (b 1855),
Robert Carr (b 1858), Sarah Jane (b 1860), Alfred Ore (b 1861),
probably named after Mary Catherine's borther, George Elmer
(b 1864), Ella Ann (b 1866), William Richard (b 1867), Hattie
Sophia (b 1868), Ida Viola (b 1871), James Walter (b 1873),
Stella Florence (b 1875), Heber Allen (b 1877), Cora Alma
(b 1879), and Mabelle Eloise (b 1882). The first 5 were
born in Marion Township in Hardin County, the next 2 somewhere
in Ohio, the next 5 in Lyme Township in Huron County, Ohio,
and the last 2 in Zanedale Township, Riley County, Kansas.
Huron County is located 2 counties southwest of Cleveland,
Ohio and Zeandale Township is in the same county as
Manhattan, Kansas and just a few miles east of the city.
They thus lived near Mary Catherine's home until just after
the Civil War. By 1868 they had moved north to Huron County,
Ohio and by 1879 they had moved west to Kansas. Mary Catherine
died on August 31, 1897 and William died on May 16, 1909;
both in Riley County, Kansas.
